Skin Care For Men

Skin Care For Men

Actually, today more and more men are realizing the importance of men's skin care and the market is flooded with a large number of products targeting the male consumer.

The male skin differs from that of a female structurally, functionally and hormonally. The adult male skin is 10 times oilier and thicker than the adult female skin. Amount of sweat gland activity too is higher in men. Male skin is more outward and unbound than female skin and hence is a target for UV radiation damage, allergen and pollutant damage.

Many men don’t care for beauty products fearing they will smell to girly< but the demand for more men friendly, easy to use products is on the rise As is inherent to the male attitude, the males are not very compliant for multiple cream applications many times a day, so one has to choose judiciously, minimize the number of creams, and select bases which do not show across as a made up look.

Gel based application or liquid based applications work fine for men than messy creams. Gels are better for a normal to oily skin, creams and lotions better for a dry skin. Neutral pH products are better suited to sensitive skin as they don’t leave the skin dry.

Quick tips for a healthy male skin

  • Go off smoking, nicotine never made anyone look younger! Smoking is the largest contributing factor to ageing and needs to be addressed to when it exhibits signs of sun damage or acne prone skin behavior, or a problematic skin which does not seem to improve and are resistant to standard therapy.
  • Healthy potion of fruits and vegetables in diet boosts up antioxidants available to the system thus preventing free radical damage and ageing.

Cleansing

The cleansing procedure helps to remove the dirt, pollutants, grease and excessive oil from the skin, preventing the pores from clogging.Oily –for a male skin that tends to be oily by nature; cleansing is all-important to provide the proper skin care. This procedure should be done at least twice or thrice every day. Choosing an appropriate face wash goes a long way in eliminating surface oil. Glycolic acid/ salicylic acid based cleansers have skin exfoliation and renewal properties and are best suited for oily male skins.

Normal -There are many advanced cleansers out there that improve your complexion, liquid cleanser improves your complexion with glycolic acid, salicylic acid, allantoin, aloe, and urea. And it can be used on sensitive skin

Dry- a moisturizing neutral pH face wash is what a dry skin needs especially if one spends important hours in a day in the air-conditioned rooms which leave the skin drier. A face cleanser which gives after wash tightness is inappropriate for a dry skin

Sensitive-Use caution with any topical exfoliants, a patch test is recommended to be sure your sensitive skin will tolerate these most products. The same holds true for sunscreens, products that contain titanium dioxide and zinc oxide for sun protection, are excellent for sensitive skin compared to the ones which have chemical sunscreen agents...

Sun Protection

Most men don't use sunscreen on a consistent basis and leave their skin at risk for cancer, not to mention wrinkles.

Sweaty oily skin wears off a sunscreen faster, choose a broad spectrum fluid or gel based sunscreen which protects you from UVB as well as UVA damage and does not look messy at the same time. The dry touch sunscreens are very popular with men as they don’t reflect a greasy look.

Shaving

Shaving foams/gels/creams, as well as, after-shave lotions are also important among men's skin care solutions. The level of oiliness may vary from person to person, while choosing shaving products men should especially take into consideration their skin type.

Irritating ingredients such as alcohol, menthol, mint, and camphor, as well as high levels of potassium or sodium hydroxide might be lurking in the shaving products, and you end up with razor burn.

Products adjusted to pH value are not irritating to skin. Basic skin-care rule number one for both men and women: If the skin-care product you use burns, irritates, tingles, causes the skin to become inflamed, or hurts, don't use it. High-quality razors preferably swivel-head razors which are known to reduce cuts are recommended.

It is also very helpful to change razor blades frequently (at least every third shave) and rinse the blade between strokes. Ingrown hairs respond well to our. Because shaving manually exfoliates skin, using a BHA product in the evening rather than immediately after shaving if the skin is acne prone is advised.

Due to regular shaving, the male skin can easily become dehydrated. So every man should have moisturizers among his skin care products. Though some shaving foams/gels themselves have an in-built moisturizing effect, it is recommended to use a moisturizing gel or cream after shaving.

All men need a gentle, water-soluble cleanser; a gentle shaving product followed by a gentle, non-irritating aftershave or shaving lotion or an alcohol-free topical anti-inflammatory product
